北京中医药大学东直门医院推拿·疼痛科成立于1978年，是全国著名的推拿疼痛临床、科研、教学基地。历时40余年几代人的努力，我科形成以“宫廷理筋术”推拿为主，针灸、针刀、药罐、熏蒸、中西医微创、理疗、膏摩等多种手段集合推拿科、骨伤科、针灸科、内外妇儿、麻醉科等多学科融合的综合性科室推拿·疼痛科。

推拿古称按摩、按跷、乔摩、按扤、跷摩。其历史悠久，门派众多。“按摩”最早记载于《素问·血气形志篇》:“形数惊恐，经络不通，病生于不仁，治之以按摩醪药。”至明代首见“推拿”一词，“推拿”的出现，为这一古老医术增添了新内容，扩展了治疗范围，很快为大众所接受。民间又有“南称推拿，北谓按摩，实则一也。中原之地，各取其首，和而称为推按”之说。
