北京大学化学学院有机化学研究所是我国首批博士学位授予点，1987年和2001年两次被国家教委评为重点学科，1993年建立生物有机分子工程教委开放实验室（现名为生物有机与分子工程教育部重点实验室）。该研究所在有机化学领域全方位开展工作，方向包括有机合成化学，金属有机化学，生物有机化学，天然产物化学和物理及理论有机化学。目前正在承担国家及部委级重大、重点项目和资助项目等20余项。
