该项技术在于STEP构筑统一的产品数据主模型，以实现全生命周期产品数据的有机组织，突破传统的产品三维模型交流依赖于CAD软件平台的限制，应用第二代Web的核心技术YRML（虚拟现实建模语言）描述产品的二维实体模型，并以三维模型为载体实现产品上模型数据的紧密集成和可视化；采用通用Web浏览器实现异地、异色环境下产品信息的可视化共享和访问。该项研究得到国家863/CIMS基础研究项目的支持。
